A Real Heartbreaker!

It's a heartbreaker. A short fictional description of the horrors of the Korean War. Michener, as always, is a superb story teller. BTW, there is a village called Toko-Ri, just outside the gates of Camp Hovey in the 2nd Infantry Division's AO. But Michener's bridges are fiction and have no relationship to the actual village. Somehow Michener uses this one episode of an Air Force pilot to give us a picture of the awesome misery of that war. You don't need to know much else about this tragic event in our history.

An amazing historical novel capturing the paradox of minds of warriors. This highlights the greatness that is James Michener. A great read!

Exciting

This book was fast paced and well written. The authors descriptive powers were excellent. You saw what he described in your mind. The story brought to life the Korean war and what it was like to land a plane on a aircraft carrier. It was way to short and could have been longer.
